After a lengthy battle with illness, James Albert “JIM” Van Acker, of Courtland, passed away at the LHSC-University Hospital, on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the age of 60 years, surrounded by his loving family. Confidant and loving husband of 40 years to Cheryl (nee Knechtel). Amazing father to Steven Van Acker and his wife Peggy, Teressa Van Acker-De Leebeeck and her husband Gary, Andrea Van Acker and her partner Graig Higgins, all of Tillsonburg. Wonderful Grandfather to Logan, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Kyaira, Desmond, Lucca, and Erika. Brother to Albert Van Acker Jr. and his wife Donna; Doreen Casier and her husband Maurice; June Skevington; and Odele Vermeersch. Son-in-law to Robert and Shirley Knechtel. Brother-in-law to Cliff Knechtel and his wife Deb; Robert Knechtel and his wife Christine. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dearest friend to Lorne and Roseanne Howden; Betty and Al Carroll; Alice and the late John “HUNKY” Borda. Predeceased by his parents Albert Sr. (1976) and Dorothy (1995) Van Acker, brother Doug Prosser (1984), sister Louise Wilson (2005). Cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Friday January 23rd, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Jim’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24th , 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow in the Tillsonburg Cemetery Columbarium. Memorial donations in Jim’s memory to the LHSC-Cardiac Care Program or ChildCan would be appreciated by the family.
