Obituary for Rev. William Halley "Hal" MacBain

Rev. William Halley MacBain, D.D. August 12, 1916 to June 24, 2016
Peacefully entered into the presence of God in his 100th year. Predeceased by his parents George and Grace MacBain, his brother Hunter, and his faithful wife, companion and helpmeet, Mary Anne (Mamie) Munday (1999). He is survived by two daughters, Grace (Alan Silvester) of Tillsonburg and Connie (Deane Parker) of Plano, Texas, 4 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Hal was called to the ministry at an early age. During his teen years he preached the Gospel on the street corners of Toronto and spent two summers conducting evangelistic meetings in the Maritimes. At 21, he started Temple Baptist Church in Sarnia with 8 members, growing it into a thriving congregation of 800 in his 27- year ministry. In 1965, he became pastor of Forward Baptist in Toronto, and during his 9 years of ministry, helped re-vitalize the church and build a new auditorium.
In Toronto, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of Central Baptist Seminary (now part of Heritage Seminary and College) and taught courses in pastoral theology, homiletics, and missiology. He then served 7 years as the first full-time Director of the Foreign Mission Board for the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada. During retirement Hal took a number of interim pastorates and was preaching until his ninetieth year.
Hal was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a distinguished Baptist minister, denominational leader, missionary statesman, beloved pastor, and faithful friend. He loved to preach and effectively communicated Biblical truths to thousands throughout his ministry.
Visitation will take place at Ostrander Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. The funeral and celebration of his life will be held at North Broadway Baptist Church on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Torrance Cemetery, Torrance Muskoka , on July 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Heritage College & Seminary, Cambridge or FEB International would be appreciated by the family.
