At Ostrander's Funeral Home we offer our families many options from which to choose when planning a funeral. We are committed to provide a dignified and meaningful service for every family we serve.

TRADITIONAL FUNERAL SERVICE

Funeral Visitation:
Traditionally a visitation takes place the afternoon and evening prior to the day of the actual funeral service. It is not unheard of to have a visitation immediately prior to the funeral service. The visitation itself provides family and friends the opportunity not only to express their loss, but share their grief. Along with the floral tributes that are placed in the visitation room the family may choose to bring photographs and other memorabilia to provide a personal setting of their loved ones life. Our certified funeral service professionals understand the needs of the family and make every effort to accommodate their requests. Donations to a charity or organization can be placed here at Ostrander's Funeral Home during and after the visitation has taken place. 
 
Funeral Service:
The funeral service itself is usually a religious or humanistic service conducted by a member of the clergy, friend or family member. The funeral service can be held in the Chapel here at Ostrander's Funeral Home or a church and is attended by family and friends.

Graveside Service:
This service is available to families that choose not to have visitation or a funeral service. It consists of family and friends gathering at the cemetery for a brief service. A member of the clergy, a friend or family member can conduct the service. Our professional staff will assist with all the necessary arrangements to ensure the service is organized as per the family's request. 
 
Forwarding Remains To Another Funeral Home:
On rare occasions a death may occur in another city, province or out of the country. Our staff of Funeral Directors here at Ostrander's Funeral Home will assist you in making the necessary arrangements in order to have the deceased transported to the place where the service is to be held.
 
Receiving Remains From Another Funeral Home:
Our qualified staff here at Ostrander's Funeral Home can make all the necessary arrangements to receive the deceased and make the funeral arrangements.

CREMATION SERVICE

Cremation is an alternative to earth burial or mausoleum entombment. Cremation dates back to ancient times, is very prevalent in Europe and has become more and more popular in North America in recent years.

Cremation does not limit the options available for a meaningful service.

Traditional Service With Cremation:
The funeral service with cremation is typically conducted in the same fashion as that of a full traditional funeral service. The deceased is viewed in a traditional casket during the visitation. Family and friends may arrange for floral tributes, photographs and other memorabilia during the visitation. The funeral service, which follows the visitation, can be conducted here in the Chapel at Ostrander's Funeral Home or in a church. After the funeral service is complete the deceased is transported to the crematorium. The disposition of ashes will then follow as per the family's request. 
 
Cremation With A Full Memorial Service:
A Full Memorial Service is held after the deceased has been cremated. There is no casket or viewing during the visitation. A visitation can be arranged here in the Chapel at Ostrander's Funeral Home or at a church, which allows family and friends the opportunity to show their respect and express their sympathy. When a Memorial Service is conducted here in our Chapel the urn containing the cremated remains can be displayed on our reposium, which allows the family to display photograph's, floral arrangements and other memorabilia during the visitation. The disposition of ashes will then follow as per the family's request.

Cremation With A Memorial Service:
A Memorial Service can be arranged here in our Chapel or at a church with or without the presence of the deceased ashes. When the family has decided to inter the ashes, a Memorial Service can be conducted at the graveside. A member of the clergy, friend or family member can conduct a memorial service.

Disposition of Cremated Remains:
With cremated remains there are a number of options that are available in regards to the final resting place of the deceased.

Burial of Ashes:
The urn may be buried in an existing family plot, in a new plot or an urn garden.

Inurnment:
The urn can be placed in a memorial niche in a cemetery columbarium.

Scattering:
Scattering cremated remains can be done in a special garden located in some cemeteries, on public or private land. Authorization should be obtained prior to scattering the remains. Since scattering is an irreversible decision, the romantic appeal of land and water does not allow for a permanent memorial site. Many family members feel the need to return to the grave or burial site throughout the years and this would be unavailable to these families if the decision is made to scatter the remains. Some family members choose to take the urn home, the thought of their loved one being close is very comforting and therapeutic.
